Fall Flower Feast

These little guys seemed to appear out of nowhere overnight. They are all over the bitterweed growing in the pasture. People may complain about weeds (even pretty flowering ones) but I love them. Pollinators love them. American Goldfinches love these flowers, too, and if they’re allowed to all grow to blooming, the rippling fields of yellow are stunning as they light up the landscape. I always hate to see folks mow them down while they’re blooming.  Sometimes I think manicured lawns are a real crime. To me they (native so-called ‘weeds’) are not pests so much as God’s garden flowers.
